Can 40,000,000 Wild Alaskan Salmon have your attention please?

Testing, testing. Is this thing on?

Can 40 million Wild Alaskan Salmon have your attention for a few minutes please?

If I were standing at a microphone right now that’s what I’d be saying. This year has seen a record run of Sockeye salmon in Alaska but they may be in jeopardy. No exaggeration. I got it straight from someone who’s been there.

NOTE: I originally published this article on Examiner.com and it was ripped off and republished elsewhere since. But be it known, I, Sheila Murrey, am the author of this article. I’ve since updated this for relevancy.

My husband and I bought some Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon at the Sarasota Farmer’s market, as it’s generally known that Wild Alaskan Salmon contains the amazing health benefits, and we wanted to try it. Well, to our amazement, we found this particular salmon to be the best tasting we’ve ever put in our mouth!

We had an engaging conversation with Eric of Cypress Creek Wild Alaskan Salmon company and learned a lot about the plight of the fish–and the fishers–in Alaska.

Eric’s a down to earth guy, very likeable, knowledgeable, and passionate about sustainable salmon fishing in Alaska. He drew us in with his genuine love for salmon fishing. Eric described where and how they fish for Wild Sockeye Salmon in the Bristol Bay area waters of Alaska and outlined a current struggle they’re facing. (“They” as in the salmon and the fishermen).

The historic huge Wild Alaskan Sockeye (Red) Salmon run in the Bristol Bay annually. Fish and game officers watch and count the fish before they allow a certain number of fishermen to fish there. Then the officers a lot the fishermen shifts, say of 4 hours a day! The fisherman only have a small window of time to fish! It’s VERY controlled and regulated which, ensure the sustainability of this kind of fishing (vs. farm-raised fish which takes krill from the very wild fish these Alaskan fisheries are fishing, and brings in it to feed farm-raised fish that are not sustainable!)

Man always thinks he can beat out nature.

Wild salmon are amazing creatures! I’ve learned that Wild Sockeye Salmon spawn in rivers with young ones typically spending a year or so in fresh water before heading on out to the ocean. When the salmon sense it’s time to spawn they swim with their powerful tails back up the same river (from where they were spawned), to spawn their young (eggs) and afterwards they die. Thus it’s their cycle of life.

The beautiful Sockeye Salmon need to swim. There’s a beauty in the life of a salmon that, if you haven’t seen it on a documentary – you should sometime. Eric recommended a documentary to us: Red Gold. Order it online or look for it on the PBS television channel.

Keep in mind the health reason we enjoy Wild Alaskan Salmon: There are multiple health benefits of eating wild Alaskan salmon (even just once a week) more than just high concentrations of Omega-3 fats. Check Dr. Mercola’s article about eating salmon –>> Click Here and about Omega-3 fats Click Here.

For anyone thinking about the cost of premium Wild Alaskan Salmon consider the logistics of getting this fresh frozen fish to Florida from Alaska: Cypress Creek’s Wild Alaskan Sockeye (Red) Salmon are caught and finished in Bristol Bay, flown to Dutch Harbor and barged to Seattle Washington, then transported frozen to Florida.

Cypress Creek sells wholesale to several restaurants. If you are a restaurant owner who’s sampled this fish and decided the cost per pound was too much, consider the health and happiness of your customers! If you offered the wild Alaskan salmon as a special, or as a seasonal item, or as a “pay a $1.00 surcharge to support Alaskan sustainable fishing” you could make this a win – win for everyone involved!

While I believe it’s probably healthiest if you prepare it yourself at home – you have the option of experiencing this incredible Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon from Cypress Creek in Sarasota Florida ask for it at the following restaurants:

Free stock image photo by pexels.png

We enjoyed a filet, similar to the one pictured, with the ‘ skin on’ filet that we bought from Eric at the farmer’s market and brought to a favorite chef to prepare and grill with a little lemon and pepper… we shared the nearly two pound filet with new friends to rave reviews! Some folks who didn’t even like salmon LOVED it!

So the issue of whether we save the sustainable fishing of beautiful and healthful salmon is fairly simple.

There’s a multinational corporation who wants to put one of the largest ever open pit copper mine in an area of land in southwest Alaska that could directly and negatively impact the sustainable fishing of the largest run of wild salmon in the world. Many in the fishing community are outraged at the potential negative ramifications of the Pebble mine.

I guess as with most issues, it all depends upon your point of view as to which side you most agree with. To provide some perspective:

The executive director of the Bristol Bay Regional Seafood Development Association, Sue Aspelund has been quoted as saying, “It’s incredibly unfortunate that Congress is debating legislation that would directly impact Bristol Bay’s commercial fishermen while thousands of them are currently contributing to yet another historic sockeye salmon season in southwest Alaska.”

So, let’s get this straight – Congress is not allowing the fishermen to testify to the perils this copper mine could impose to their livelihoods? My thoughts go to “free country”, “freedom of speech“, and “government for the people, by the people”! Call me crazy, but I don’t get that at all and that’s what seems un-American about this issue. (Unless of course we are now defining “being American” as one who values and upholds corporate interests over the interest of people living in a particular area of the country).

To get a bit more perspective on this whole copper mining situation, check out this recent news about another one (the Mount Polley Mine) in Canada and its horrid impact on the salmon fishing there –>> Click Here.

For anyone thinking at this point that farm-raised fishing must be the way to go – not so fast… most farm-raised fishing uses krill as feed and it’s being taken away from all ocean creatures at ever increasing rates. Refer to this article on Pure Zing for several reason you don’t want to eat farm-raised fish –>> Click Here.

Read more here about the provocative Pebble mine story –>> Click Here.

I am not here to draw all of conclusions, however, from discussing this issue with those who make their livelihood for their families by fishing these waters, the mining in this area will negatively impact the health and numbers of these awesome fish.

How can you help?

Find this article on Facebook by Jon Corbett – Why Bristol Bay Forever

I’ve highlighted a few lines but you should really read Jon’s article… it will light a fire under you to action!

“For the past decade the majority of the people in the Bristol Bay region have been embroiled in a political
battle with foreign corporations and Our Own state. At issue is development of industrial scale mining in the headwaters of the Mulchatna, Nushagak and Kvichak Rivers. This watershed provides about a third of the World’s Salmon and many other species of tasty seafood as well. Bristol Bay is one of the last Wild fisheries left globally…” and Jon continues, “this all really boils down to… the big dollar outside and foreign resource extraction industry has hijacked Juneau from We The People of Alaska and America.” and most importantly, “When the lobbyists spend tens of millions in Juneau to control Our government, It’s time to make sure that the voices of We The People are amplified even more. So when you head to the polls on November 4th… Remember that the Alaska Constitution addresses this clearly… The resources and the government belong to Us…Vote Yes on Bristol Bay Forever!”

Research on fish runs (a comparison):
Canadian research pointing to outcomes garnered by researchers studying the Fraser River salmon numbers:
“While factors in Fraser River salmon declines are not fully understood, several are currently being explored for the federal judicial inquiry
including: environmental changes of freshwater and inland habitat, marine habitat, aquaculture, predators, diseases, and water temperatures.

Related factors include:
Water Quality: !e Fraser River is the most heavily urbanized and industrialized water body in British Columbia.14 Activities including
mining, pulp mills, agriculture, forestry, transportation and other urbanization
cause exceedances in water quality guidelines for: dissolved oxygen, temperature, copper, zinc, lead, cadmium, chromium, and nutrients which can harm aquatic life.15 In contrast, available data for waters in the Bristol Bay region indicate cold, well-oxygenated conditions with low concentrations of dissolved metals and other solutes. Bristol Bay is not highly urbanized or industrialized.”

Many teachers can show you, yet your vitality and vibrant life depends on what you practice daily

If you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time, you’ve come to know that there are many teachers, and many ways of living, that can help you prevent dis-ease and assist you in living a long and vibrant life.

Let’s look at those teachers again. And the practices that go well beyond food.

We all know people who can live to be almost any age, by eating white cake everyday, which as much as that exasperates me, also proves that all the cells of your body are LISTENING to you, your beliefs, your words, and the environment you place them in.

We don’t know if people are happy, think positive and hopeful thoughts, or not, but we can see the effects of their thoughts, happy people who laugh and joke, but eat the worst diets, smoke, drink alcohol, and so on–yet seemingly live fairly well.

Then there are those who fall over with a heart attack while jogging. Maybe they were sad, angry, resentful, or suffering from an aching heart.

Sometimes, it just makes no sense. And there seems to be no rhyme or reason to why some people live long lives and others die young.

There are many different schools of thought about a variety of subjects. And who gets to be the one authority on any one topic anyway?

So, this list includes everyone in my circle who promote exercise, healthy eating habits, and mindful practices (yes, some religious / spiritual, though I realize people who claim to be atheists, can also live long and healthy lives).

Who do you follow? What are your daily practices? Do they make you FEEL good when you do them? If so, I think you’re probably on a pretty good path for yourself. I am not here to judge.

I heard it said that the best exercise is the one you’ll DO! And that has proven to be true in my experience. I love the benefits of walking, Qigong, Pilates, Yamuna, yoga, deep breathing, and singing, so I continue to practice these.

I am here, as my mother was for me (in my younger years), to give you the benefit of helpful people and things that I’ve found. But my way does not have to be your way.

If you saw what I eat on a daily basis, you’d think I’d be thin, or at the very least of a “normal” weight, but I struggle with the extra 60-80 pounds I put on during a traumatic time of my life.

I lose 20-30 pounds for awhile, then slowly put it back on. I’ve paid thousands of dollars for diet books, classes, enzyme supplements, colonics, cleansing teas, doctor sponsored diet plans, and on and on, but I have not yet (I have hope) found one that really, truly, works for me. I even use EFT, Jin Shin Jyutsu, prayer, acupuncture, acupressure, reflexology, meditation, and so on also, to release the mental struggle in order to try to return to my pre-age 35 weight. But alas, I continue to seek to find a way back to my whole and healthy weight. I’ve even “let go” of the “trying to’s” and that seems to allow more weight to creep back on!

Here’s an example of one of my lunches (that I eat most weekdays, as most weekends I skip lunch in favor of a Greek egg omelet):

  • 4 Romaine lettuce leaves
  • Big slice of raw onion
  • 1/2 raw squash (or zucchini)
  • 2 or 3 slices of roasted turkey breast (optional)

Sheila Raw Salad lunch.JPG

Dressing:

  • 1 T Garlic
  • 1/2 t garlic powder
  • 1/4 t cajun or creole seasoning
  • Walnut and Olive oil
  • Dash of sea salt to taste

So, I am just a regular gal, hoping to connect you with some things, or people, who will assist you to be the person you want to be. I am a Connector. Don’t look to me to be perfect. True art only finds and honors the imperfection anyway. If life were perfect and everyone was the same, it would be boring. Embrace the drama–just a little bit, and use it to make better, consistently joyous choices. That’s about as good as it gets.

Much love, and many blessings to you in ALL ways,

sheila

What do you know about CBD oil?

CBD is short for Cannabidiol. And typically it comes from the marijuana plant, but it can also be taken from the hemp plant. CBD oil from hemp is not psychoactive like the CBD oil from marijuana.

Said another way, CBD oil from marijuana is sometimes given to patients by a medical doctor now that medical marijuana is legal in many states. However, CBD oil from the hemp plant is legal in all 50 states! Again, this is because it is not psychoactive.

To date, I have tried four different brands of CBD oil, and each is of a different milligram, viscosity, and taste. I believe one of the four brands produces better brain function for myself, but all have reduced nervous tension in my mind and body–to more or less of a degree, perhaps depending upon their formulation and processing. Email me for more specifics as to the brands.

You can go to the Pub Med government site and search using the terms “CBD” and “ailment” (substituting whatever ailment you have for the second term) to be able to find studies relating to the benefits of CBD oil. In the following example, I entered “CBD” and “alzheimer’s disease” and it returned 229 search results! Even if only one of the results was positive, you bet that I considered it a valid result for me to give CBD oil the old college try! Wow!!

Government Studies –> https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/
Over 23,000 studies relating to CBD oil there that include:

Cannabidiol Oil for Decreasing Addictive Use of Marijuana: A Case Report.

This case study illustrates the use of cannabidiol (CBD) oil to decrease the addictive use of marijuana and provide anxiolytic and sleep bene ts. Addiction to marijuana is a chronic, relapsing disorder, which is becoming a prevalent condition in the United States. The most abundant compound in the marijuana, which is called tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), has been widely studied and known for its psychoactive properties.

The second most abundant component-CBD-has been suggested to have the medicinal e ects of decreasing anxiety, improving sleep, and other neuro-protective e ects. The mechanism of action for CBD has been suggested to be antagonistic to the psychoactive properties of THC in many locations within the central nervous system. Such action raises the issue of whether it might be bene cial to use CBD in isolation to facilitate withdrawal of marijuana use. The speci c use of CBD for marijuana reduction has not been widely studied.

The patient was a 27-y-old male who presented with a long-standing diagnosis of bipolar disorder and a daily addiction to marijuana use. In the described intervention, the only change made to the patient’s treatment was the addition of CBD oil with the dosage gradually decreasing from 24 to 18 mg. With use of the CBD oil, the patient reported being less anxious, as well as settling into a regular pattern of sleep. He also indicated that he had not used any marijuana since starting the CBD oil. With the decrease in the dosage to 18 mg, the patient was able to maintain his nonuse of marijuana.

You can also research to learn more about CBD oil by visiting the American Herbal Products Association –> http://ahpa.org

The reason that CBD oil is important to me:

My mother is in advanced stages of Alzheimer’s. I have the hopes that this oil will help her, as well as act as a preventive supplement for me. After taking CBD oil (email me for brand specific information) for only 4 days I noticed a big change in my mood (less nervous tension at work) and ability to think faster (better mental processing speed) with improved mental clarity and focus! I really feel it’s brain food for me. I also fall asleep faster at night, and my hubby says I snore less too! In addition, I went from not being able to remember four names a day to ONE! (An example of my improved memory function).

A few others who have noticed improvements since taking CBD oil:

KK: teenage daughter has noticed that it helps calm her + fall and stay asleep!

KB: I have noticed more clarity; better able to focus, mush less arm and shoulder pain and it is helping me sleep better!

KE: I feel alive!!!! Energized! Sleeping through the night for the first time in years. Also, heel discomfort is so much better.

MF: No more racing thoughts for me.

TR: Best thing for my pain. I feel great!

TD: My mind has calmed, yet my energy has increased. I have a very physical job, so the level of energy this gives me is such a gift! Much less inflammation and joint pain. I’ll take it for the rest of my life.

Ease Arthritis and more with Nordic Light Fish and Krill Oil

Most of us over the age of 40 have heard of, or even take a daily supplement of some kind of fish oil. Easy to take Nordic Light Fish and Krill Oil capsules can replace your yucky tasting cod liver oil! The less known krill is a prawn-like creature found in all oceans and is very high in nutrients.

The story behind Nordic Light Fish and Krill Oil is fascinating!

Nordic Light Fish and Krill Oil.jpg

There was once a North Norwegian fisherman, Arild Karlsen, who wanted everyone to enjoy the health benefits offered by the delicacies of the sea, in pill form.

Arild was helped by a person who has the doctorate at Omega3 at the University of Tromsø to develop an energy capsule consisting of 70 percent omega 3 and 30 percent krill oil based on small prawns.

As the fisherman was superstitious, he wanted to obtain the raw ingredients from the Arctic Ocean. This was because the light there has a magical effect on both people and fish; hence the product was given the “Nordic Light” name.

“We have spent five years achieving what we wanted to achieve with Nordic Light,” recounts the fisherman-come-businessman. According to Karlsen, the entire process has been carried through on the back of a genuine desire to help people. He talks of customers who have recovered from everything from psoriasis to arthritis.

Customers have reported having more energy, and that their fingernails become stronger too!

Professor Tore Seternes demonstrates the effects of the capsule in the following way: he gets two glasses of water at body temperature. To the first glass, he adds pure omega 3. This forms a film. Omega 3 and krill oil are then added to the other glass. This mixes evenly and easily with the water.

“This fairytale-like mixture is easily adsorbed by the body. Customers therefore also experience rapid and positive improvement,” says founder Arild Karlsen.

Arctic Light Products Ltd. is a Tromsø-based trading company in Norway, which was founded in 2010 on the recommendation from Innovation Norway, and is owned by Irene Karlsen–the entrepreneur’s wife.

The beneficial oil is a blend of Omega 3 & Krill oil product that is sold under the brand name Nordic Light, specifically called, Nordic Light Fish and Krill Oil. Arctic Light supplies health food products directly from Norwegian producers to customers and distributors in the market.

Arctic Light Products.png

Arctic Light Products AS (AS ALP) activity began with an idea to create the best fishing oil product on the market today. The founder has personal experience of many years as both a fisherman, fishing boat captain, and fishing boat owner / captain of the fishing boat trawler before starting the development of the Arctic Light Products.

Arctic Light Products provide one of the cleanest product of its kind on the market, with a mixture of 70% highly concentrated Omega 3 (not of the liver), but from fish meat and 30% Krill Oil. Nordic Light Krill & Fish Oil is a product of high quality, it consists of 70% high grade Omega-3 and 30% Krill oil.

The fact that Nordic Light Krill & Fish Oil contains a mixture of fish oil and krill oil, makes this product unique. Because the absorption of Omega-3 in the body becomes much more efficient. Normal fish oil Omega3 uptake is about 45%, but Nordic Light Krill & Fish Oil has Omega3 that ca.92-94%, this is because when the phospholipids of krill oil is mixed with fish oil it mixes very easily and becomes soluble in water within the body. And this means that the absorption of Omega-3 is much larger.

Nordic Light.jpg

Anyone who has seen the Northern Lights know that it makes an impression. It is said that this light has a magical affect both humans and fish in the sea. The raw material in Nordic Light Fish and Krill Oil comes from aurora ocean. The name of the Northern Light came to the founder through his wife while he was working with to find the right color of the product, the red heart color.

The whole process has been completed by a sincere desire to help people who need a product that is unlike other fish oil produced from the liver. The mixture is 70% high grade Omega 3 and 30% Krill oil and has produced good positive results.

It also confirms the Karlsen’s belief that it was right to focus on quality, quality and quality of the entire line.

Karlsens.jpg

Arild and Irene Karlsen, the makers of Nordic Light Fish and Krill Oil were blessed to find the expertise they needed to produce this fine quality product in Tromso.

The factory where Nordic Light Fish and Krill Oil is made is located in Troms–in the northernmost part of Norway. The Nordic Light name comes from this geographical interest. Raw materials and production are from this pure northern region.

Arild Karlsen spent over ten years to get the Nordic Light Krill Oil manufactured to the exacting standards he desired to present such an optimal product to everyone. Arild wishes with all his heart two help to improve the health of people.

Are you scared of Yoga?

Yoga isn’t just for thin and fit young women… ohh nooooo!

If you’ve ever walked into a yoga studio and been made to feel anything less than beautiful, no matter your age, weight, skin tone, gender, hair color, or personal style, then honey, that group wasn’t for you anyway.

Or, if you’ve ever thought that you’re just not flexible enough to do yoga, think again! Only with practice does flexibility come. No one has ever became a yoga guru overnight! And no one will expect that perfection from you. It’s all about the progress, not perfection in yoga. No one is born a master.

In a yoga class, each of us are so busy working on getting into a posture and breathing in it, that we aren’t looking at you anyway. Sure, there may be the occasional glance, but our purpose in class is to focus on self, breathe and connect with our own mind and body, all the while feeling the support and building our confidence by feeling supported by a caring teacher who will guide us.

This is why I delightfully invite you, if you’re anywhere near the Tampa Bay area of Florida, to meet Dr. Ronald Porter and come to one of his uplifting classes.

I attended Dr. Porter’s “Yoga FUNdamentals!” class yesterday (one of the series of experiential learning classes he offers on a monthly basis at Miracles Metaphysical bookstore in St. Petersburg, FL) and he did a brilliant joy (er, job) of leading an older group of us (many of whom had never moved their bodies much at all, much less had done yoga before) in yoga. Plus, he taught us how he came to learn and teach yoga, the proper way the positions (asanas) are done, the Sanskrit words for each asana, and how to modify it for our body and ability. We moved very slowly, breathed, and held the asana for 3 to 5 minutes.

I woke up this morning feeling ten years younger, lighter, and with no muscle soreness at all! In fact, yoga can help you live longer, because with a flexible spine you’ll be able to do more, and not hurt when you bend over and pick something up from the floor. With practice, yoga will enable your body to flex, thus allowing  you to feel younger! Yoga is a process. But, it won’t take long, with consistent practice, for you to feel, and then see, a transformation in your body.

In the Fundamentals playshop, Dr. Ronald K. Porter lead us in an exploration of the basic philosophy and fundamental poses of yoga.  We all learned and practiced right along with him. We smiled, and laughed. It was experiential! And it was fun!

During Ronald’s class, we could obviously see Ronald’s mastery of yoga, yet we could also see, hear, and feel that this master has transcended ego. He never made us feel “less than” anything! In fact, because Ronald says, “beautiful” so much during class, he has me saying it more now in my everyday life. Positivity abounds!

The journey of yoga is a lifelong process, and the student who is open to this process can experience an entirely new readjustment and realignment in their life.  We invite you to laugh and have fun learning this wonderful technique for better health! People have diminished or eliminated anxiety, eased stress, calmed nerves, and lessened depression by practicing yoga. Some have even replaced their smoking habit, or other addictive habit with yoga–it’s very beneficial for you since it’s all about the mind-body connection. And if you’re on prescription medication for a chronic health issue, over time, you may find you’ll need less of those meds!*

If you’re taught properly, yoga is simply about connecting your breath to your body.

Yoga means “to yoke with”. The history of yoga indicates it was thought that by practicing yoga you could enter a meditative, contemplative state of mind, and establish right relationship with God, or the Divine. Whether you want to explore yoga for spiritual reasons, or to relieve your body of pain or chronic dis-ease, don’t let anyone judge you into not coming to a yoga class.

If you aren’t local to our area, or for any reason whatsoever still scared to try a public yoga class, you can always go to YouTube or Gaiam TV online and find a beginner video to watch. Begin moving your body in rhythm with your breath. Do five minutes of yoga. Then build to ten minutes, and so on. Until you feel ready to come out and join a group. The energy you’ll feel while in a group experience is so much richer than going it alone, that within a couple sessions, you’ll really enjoy it.

From Dr. Ronald Porter,

Yoga is for everyone!  Whether your tall, short, round, thin, male, female or transgender, yoga has the potential of being very beneficial for your life.  Often, when people think of yoga they imagine lean and slender persons contorting their bodies into positions that look painful, and even disturbing.  Every now and then I am even asked, “Hey, can you demonstrate that pretzel position?”  It’s sad to think that many people miss out on yoga simply because they have been led to believe it is not for them.

However, yoga is for us all!

I have overheard some people say they’re scared of yoga for religious reasons. Well, that is simply misinformation. If you’re thinking that a yoga teacher is going to attempt to convert you into becoming a mystic, read this.

Some of you may feel intimidated at the thought of yoga, but again, everybody has to start somewhere. We’ve all been new. It’s really okay! Just start wherever you are! And if you tried a class somewhere and felt pressured to perform a posture that was too much for you, or worse, you were called out in any way, you have my assurance — you will not feel that way in Ronald’s yoga classes.

Ronald’s soothing voice and calm manner was one of the first things that attracted me to his classes. When Ronald says to, “breathe d-e-e-p”, you will feel the tension melt away, and as you breathe deep, you’ll feel the ease of your body. I am blessed in those moments. And if I didn’t feel like I fit in when I arrived, I feel it then!

Each week, I look forward to the energy and the flow that I feel during our yoga class, the relaxation, and the healing that takes place. No one has to prod me to attend. I even sleep better after attending a yoga class!

Try it, you’ll like it!

You’ll find a group at Ronald’s classes who are kind, supportive, and loving. You may not get to know them all at once, because since yoga is about our “self” you might find more introverts practicing yoga. However, over time, as you come to class and practice next to someone, mat to mat, you will see that we are all each on our own journey. Yet, We Are All Connected.

Along my life’s journey I have learned that if I do not judge others, they do not judge me. And I think that’s a pretty good mind set and way to live, whether on or off the yoga mat.

Amen. Namaste. OM

Speaking of work, you can take one of the balls with you to work and place it behind your back in your office chair to get a quick and personal chair massage for mid back, shoulders, and so on, and no one will know! Of course if someone asks and tries it, they’re going to want the to get the Yamuna® Body Rolling system for themselves (and go for a class in their area) – so, be prepared to joyfully share this article for them to learn more!

The Yamuna® Body Rolling foot wakers (two half balls with nubs on them, perfect to massage all acupressure points on the feet) are also awesome to take to work and place under your feet and get your foot work done while you sit at your desk. This author’s feet have never felt so good–and I’ve never been able to spread my toes apart and hold them that way by themselves, until now!

Previous participants in Emily’s classes reported the soothing of plantar fasciitis, relief of sciatica, shoulder, hip, or back pain. Many people who regularly use the Yamuna® Body Rolling system have experienced a wonderful lasting calm and ease of their central nervous system.

In the Tampa Bay Florida area, Emily Stein is a certified Yamuna® Body Rolling Practitioner and Personal Trainer who specializes in flexibility and mobility training using Yamuna® Body Rolling and Active Isolated Stretching. Emily is dedicated to helping her local community become pain free using this non-invasive fun and gentle method.

7 takeaways from meeting Sadhguru during his first American book tour

A once-in-a-lifetime experience!

I–along with 2000 other people–recently attended a book launch event for Sadhguru’s first American book and New York Times Best Seller, “Inner Engineering, A Yogi’s Guide to Joy.”

Sadhguru website photo.png

I totally loved the live musical performances offered while we all gathered in the Van Wezel auditorium (in Sarasota, Florida). And to think, all of the singers and musicians traveling with Sadhguru are volunteers! What a glorious gift! I love how enchanting Indian music is, especially the sitar, which has to be one of the most amazing instruments ever invented! My heart was dancing in the abundance of the vibrations!

Sadhguru will be visiting 42 cities this year, so attend if at all possible. Your ears will be delighted and your heart and consciousness will expand from the profound and practical wisdom shared.

Check this website for the other cities where Sadhguru will be speaking, and get tickets. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to sit at the feet of this gentle, wise contemporary yogi’s feet.

After the musical performances, Dr. Kiran Patel gave an insightful and stirring introduction of Sadhguru. And then the moment arrived…

As Sadhguru was about to enter the stage, a hush fell over the entire auditorium, as such, you could have heard a pin drop! It was like 2000 people were holding their collective breath! Sadhguru meekly, yet with what I would call, powerful command of knowing, walked out and sat down in a “not so comfortable chair”, center stage.

We did not know whether he would speak first, or lead us in meditation, sing, or what! So, we eagerly anticipated… I could feel the Energy in the room–nearly palpable!

Sadhguru began by asking us a question, “How many of you have experienced even one day of joy in your lives?”

Several hands went up.

But, continuing, Sadhguru brought the real issue to the surface of our minds. How to sustain joy.

During Sadhguru’s talk, he used stories from his life to illustrate the variety of predicaments we each seem to get ourselves into, and how we can find the pleasantness–even in the moment of some, perhaps not so pleasant of an experience.

One of the questions I had was whether or not once one reaches “enlightenment”, does everything become, well, easier? And the answer seemed to be “yes.”

Sadhguru explained how he continues to change and grow in the field of pure positive potentiality. Ahh… even after explaining about his childhood and experience of enlightenment, he said “one does not just reach enlightenment and then that’s it.”

I literally took many things away from my experience with Sadhguru, and am continuing to grasp more ideas, concepts, and tools while reading Inner Engineering, but for purposes of this article, I thought I’d share my 7 takeaways from this event:

  1. Most of us have experience joy, but find it nearly impossible to sustain it
  2. Peace and joy are the basis of our life, not goals to be achieved
  3. Pleasantness leads to peace and joy–and other people are attracted to you when you are pleasant
  4. We can never find pleasantness outside of us, if we do not first find pleasantness inside of ourselves. Yes, it is an inside job.
  5. Tools exist that can help each of us find the pleasantness inside–we do not have to “recreate the wheel” so to speak, or “go it alone”–and these simple and powerful tools are explained in Sadhguru’s book, “Inner Engineering:  A Yogi’s Guide to Joy” which will guide you towards the well-being and joy that you seek.
  6. Only our physical senses limit us. Yoga is not only a physical “workout”, but rather it’s defined as “to yoke” with the “dimensionless unity of absolute perfection” that exists everywhere–We Are All One
  7. What is pleasing to you, may not be pleasing to me, but each together weave a beautiful tapestry when we let go of our need to control each other’s perception of reality

While enjoying Sadhguru’s event, I was in a state of awe, as I had predicted. Not just of Sadhguru as a man, mystic, or master, but of the shared vibratory resonance that occurred in that one place.

At the event, Americans of many different nationalities were tuned human instruments playing a delightful symphony of be-ing. We listened intently. We laughed with Sadhguru as he related funny stories. We sang with him. We clapped. And finally, we meditated as Sadhguru led us in a shared meditation, the likes of which, I had never experienced before. It certainly put me in a pleasant blissful resonance!

Meet yogi and visionary humanitarian Sadhguru… Sunday Sept 25th, 2016 in Sarasota, Florida

Oh, this is sooo exciting!!! What a humble honor it is for me to share with you… Sadhguru will be visiting Sarasota Florida on Sunday, Sept 25, 2016!

As I sit writing this, I wonder what my focused experience of meeting Sadhguru will be like. Will it be similar to what my dear friend and angel Alania experienced and wrote about (here) last year? Will he say the same thing? Or like us, does Sadhguru continue to change and grow in the field of pure positive potentiality? Ahh…

Well, my dear lovely friends, I offer you an opportunity to find out.

Click here to go to the official website where you can find out all of the event particulars and buy your ticket to reserve your seat (there are multiple pricing levels, even a discounted student rate). Note: The minimum age limit to attend is 7 years.

I will be there. And I believe I will be in a state of awe. Not just of Sadhguru as a man, mystic, or master, but of the shared vibratory resonance that will occur in one place, when many finely tuned human instruments will join together to play a delightful symphony of be-ing.

I have been watching Sadhguru on YouTube, since being introduced to Pranayama breathing only recently. Literally, within days of my beginning to practice my newly learned breathing techniques, I found myself at a film screening (I’d been invited with only two days notice, and I just simply knew that I must attend) whereby I was given the most thrilling news that Sadhguru would be visiting locally–SOON!

Well, if you know me, you will most definitely understand when I say, I jumped at the opportunity to, not only reserve my seat to attend, but also to serve by offering to write this blog article FAST and help get the news out about his upcoming visit!

Again, here is the link to all of the information about this extraordinary event. See you there!

From the official Press Release (shared with permission):

Inner Engineering: A Yogis Guide to Joy helps one to master the most sophisticated machine on the planet — the human being. During his North American Fall Tour, world renowned yogi and visionary humanitarian, Sadhguru, will introduce the new book, which will be released September 20th. Sadhguru will be touring 17 cities during his North American Fall Tour with an event planned in Sarasota on September 25th at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall.

For the first time, Sadhguru will present Western readers with a path to achieving absolute well-being through the classical science of yoga in a practical, accessible book. The wisdom distilled in this transformative book offers readers time-tested tools for creating inner situations exactly the way you want them, turning you into the architect of your own joy.

Sadhguru presents a philosophical and practical introduction to the power and profundity of yoga – as he puts it, “not as acrobatics or metaphysics, but as an empirical science that makes you the master of your own destiny…(this book) is an invitation to each one of you to turn from an armchair reader into a dynamic participant on an ecstatic journey inward.”

A yogi lives life in this expansive state and in this transformative book Sadhguru shares the story of his own awakening, from a boy to a young daredevil, to the moment of his enlightenment on a mountaintop in India, where time stood still, and he emerged radically changed.

“My aim in this book is to help make joy your constant companion. To make that happen, this book offers you not a sermon, but a science; not a teaching, but a technology; not a precept, but a path,” explains Sadhguru in the book’s forward.

Today, as the founder of Isha Foundation, a worldwide nonprofit organization, and classical yoga retreat centers in both the East and West, he lights the path for millions like you. Isha’s international retreat center based in the western world is the Isha Institute of Inner-sciences situated in Tennessee’s own spectacular Upper Cumberland just one hour northwest of Chattanooga, TN.

Just following the book release will be Isha’s popular, annual World Peace Day celebration September 24th, hosted at the Tennessee center. The World Peace Day celebration is an annual daylong event in honor of the United Nations International Day of Peace. World Peace Day is dedicated to cultivating peaceful possibilities within ourselves and our world through creative expression, celebration, yoga and meditation in the idyllic natural setting of the Foundation’s breathtaking Upper Cumberland retreat center.

Sadhguru is known around the world for large-scale humanitarian, educational, and environmental projects carried out by Isha Foundation, which he founded in 1992.   Supported by over three million volunteers worldwide, the objective of all the Foundations activities is to empower the individual to realize the ultimate potential within, and to promote a global climate of inclusiveness and harmony. Sadhguru has been an honored guest and speaker at distinguished forums and institutions including the United Nations, The World Economic Forum, Harvard, Wharton, Microsoft, TED, Google, and more.

Inner Engineering is a fascinating read of Sadhguru’s insights and his teaching. If you are ready, it is a tool to help awaken your own inner intelligence, the ultimate and supreme genius that mirrors the wisdom of the cosmos.” – Deepak Chopra

“I am inspired by Sadhguru’s capacity for joy, his exuberance for life, and the depth and breadth of his curiosity and knowledge. His book is filled with moments of wonder, awe, and intellectual challenge. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in self-transformation.” —Mark Hyman, MD, Director, Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine, and New York Times bestselling author
